Skechers USA

As America's third largest shoe manufacturer and with a market cap of nearly $5B, Skechers has stolen considerable share from New Balance, Adidas and Nike. However, as popular as their shoes are among women and children, Skechers has long struggled to capture the adult male demographic.

Our challenge was to produce a commercial for television and radio that highlighted Skechers's wider "Relaxed Fit" toe box and memory foam insoles while making use of an existing talent contract with Hall of Famer and former Los Angeles Dodger manager, Tommy Lasorda.

Given Lasorda's advanced age and the need for our script to also work in an audio-only formats, I wrote a dialogue-driven, meta-narrative about Tommy speaking to camera as he stars in a Skechers commercial. Instead of reading his provided lines, Lasorda repeatedly "ad libs" outrageous one-liners about the shoes' benefits before his increasingly frustrated director cuts him off for another take.
